GDC 09: CryEngine 3

If your not really into the PC gaming world you might not have heard much about the FPS game called Crysis. Developed by the company Crytek (who made the FarCry series), using their CryEngine 2 graphics engine, it has been deemed the PC killer because no PC system has been able to play the game at the highest quality. It set the standard for PC graphics and forced hardware makers to step-it-up a notch. At first, they had made no promises to move to the console market but after millions of dollars lost to game piraters it seems they've changed their tone. They have developed an entirely new engine named CryEngine 3. It was developed from the ground up for current and next-gen gaming consoles, and is almost 7 times more powerful than CryEngine 2. Check out the awesome demo video displaying the performance on both the PS3 and Xbox 360. It's also important to note that the NPCs in the demo with the cool armor are directly from Crysis, which in my mind hints at a console version of Crysis.
