Gears of War director passing on The Rock

Good, the Gears of War movie director, Len Wisemen, has decided to pass on casting Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Marcus Phoenix. I was disappointed (like anyone who saw DOOM) when I read that he was even considering it. The Rock can't pull off the tough, dark, gritty action character. He's already done too many pussy (I mean family) movies to be taken seriously as an action star. The Rock is no Arnold. Arnold did right - all R, gory, violent, action movies (Conan, Terminator, The Running Man, Predator, Red Heat, Commando, Raw Deal, etc) for beginning of his career. The Rock did The Scorpion King and it was only PG-13. They may need to find a "no name" actor (no fucking wrestlers) and bulk him up for the role. I can't think of any current action stars that can play the role.
